Asbury Place Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have nurses on staff?

Yes. We have licensed nursing staff as well as caregivers on the premises 24-hours per day.

Do we have to use your doctors?

No. You are welcome to continue to see your current physician(s) at his/her office, or your physician may visit you at Asbury Place (with the prior approval of the Medical Director). As it gets more difficult to take your loved one out, you may find it more convenient to use one of our physicians.

What other medical services do you provide?

We have a board-certified, fellowship-trained geriatrician serving as Medical Director and additional attending physicians. Also, the following medical specialists are available on campus:

  • Dentists
  • Ophthalmologists
  • Opticians
  • Physiatrist
  • Podiatrists
  • Audiologists
  • Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists

Do you provide room furnishings?

Most residents prefer to bring their furniture and personal items from home, but we would be happy to provide you with a bed, dresser and mirror, nightstand and lamp, and a comfortable chair.

What are the visiting hours?

Visiting hours are 24-hours a day. This is your loved one’s home. Family and friends are welcome to visit at any time. The front doors are locked at 8 p.m. If the front door is locked, ring the doorbell by the outside door and a staff member will be alerted to open the door.

Can the residents leave the facility with family for outings or go home with them for a visit?

Yes. Our residents are free to come and go as long as they are with an authorized person. Please let a staff member know if you’ll be taking your loved one out.

Can residents go out overnight with family or friends?

Residents are welcome to go away with family and friends as they are able. There is no curfew. We ask that your loved one inform the nursing staff when he or she will be away in order for staff to prepare your loved one’s medications to take with them.

What is there to do at Asbury Place?

We have a structured activities program staffed by activity professionals seven days a week. We offer exercise daily, musical entertainment weekly, spiritual activities, weekly outings to local attractions as well as crafts, baking, word games and more. There is something offered for everyone. For residents who do not enjoy group activities, the activity staff offers personal visits.

Is there an outside area for residents to walk?

For some this is very important. Asbury Place has a large secure outdoor area with wandering paths, gardens and places to sit along the way.

Is there a waiting list?

We do have a waiting list; however, many of the people on it are not yet prepared to move. They have submitted their application but may not need placement the first time we contact them. We encourage people to complete an application if they are interested.

Are the rooms private?

We have 37 private and five semi-private rooms.

What "level" are your residents?

We have many different functioning levels here. Most of our residents fall in the mild to moderate dementia stages. We are equipped to take residents at different functional levels by having the staff to support those levels.

What happens when my money runs out?

Asbury Heights is a faith based, not for profit, continuing care retirement community. There is a benevolent care fund that will provide for those who have depleted their resources over the extended period of their residency and can no longer pay full charges for their care and accommodations. Once you are admitted to Asbury, we would never ask you to leave when your assets are depleted.

When do residents have to leave Asbury Place?

Mobility is the biggest factor. Other considerations are made when a resident is no longer able to walk consistently without the assistance of another person or a wheelchair.

Where do residents go after Asbury Place?

When mobility becomes a challenge, we usually transition residents to our skilled nursing center.
